Can you believe we’re almost halfway through November already?
As we start wrapping things up for the year, it’s a great time to think about setting ourselves up for a fresh start in 2025!
Part of that year end prep can mean getting things in order.. And yes, sometimes that includes letting go of what’s no longer working 🙅♀️
Here’s one of the trickiest parts of running a business: realising it might be time to say goodbye to a client who just isn’t the right fit.
I know from experience that dealing with a less than ideal client can drain more time and energy than you’d think 🥵 But making the decision to walk away? That's never easy!!
If you’re stuck in limbo wondering "should I or shouldn't I?", here are a few signs it might be worth considering..
❎ Your Client never pays you on time
❎ They don’t treat you like a fellow Business Owner
❎ Your goals are changing and the working relationship no longer aligns with your business vision
Whatever the reason, breaking up with a client is tough! And doing it professionally is key. Even if the experience wasn’t great, burning bridges isn’t worth it (even if it’s tempting 🔥).
You never know when a crappy ending could come back to bite your business in the ass. So heres a few tips on breaking up ✨professionally✨
✨ Consider If There’s Room for Improvement
Sometimes a reset can make all the difference! Do you need to reestablish boundaries or clarify expectations? (I once broke up with a client thinking they weren’t happy with my work, only to find out they were devastated! Turns out, it was our communication that needed work 🤦🏼♀️)
✨ Check Your Contract
Review the terms carefully! Things like notice periods and guidelines for ending the relationship ensure everything stays professional.
✨ Send a Professional Email
A simple, clear email is best. Give notice, express gratitude for the time you worked together (if you mean it 😅), and keep it short + polite.
Letting go of a client is hard, but creating a business filled with aligned, respectful clients is always worth it 💪
